Home is where the heart is

Some people live in one place all their lives, never leaving home. Some people move every six months. The same amount of people are happy or unhappy in both situations. It is all a state of mind. Some think a big financial win will make things happier or a new partner but really the happiness is within and so is the heart.

Your home is inside you. You probably have a few special objects you never part with. A favourite picture or a rug or a cup or a book or a piece of furniture. When these personal effects are in position you start to feel secure. It starts to feel like home.

I know it feels like we will be here on this earth forever. But in fact we are just passing through. We Irish are trained to crave our patch of land, our field. We yearn to put our roots down and own our home. In other countries everyone rents and lives 20 years in someone else’s house very happily. It all depends how we look at it.

Home is a place where you feel safe, loved and wanted. So if you can learn to feel those things for yourself then you will always feel at home even if you don’t have one to call your own.
