slumber

Most of us do not get enough sleep. As babies we get at first over twenty hours a day and then it goes down to about twelve or so. By the time we are teenagers we can survive on about seven. In truth we need about nine. Few grown ups achieve this magical dream. So many of us trail through the day promising ourselves an early night only to finish chore after chore until we are promising ourselves a decent nights sleep which ends a little late as usual.

When slumber beckons we must remember it is time to rest. It is not because a chore is finished or an ambition achieved, it is because it is the end of the day and we must accept that the day is over. There is always tomorrow. We are now at the next stage. We must sleep.

If you find it difficult to relax and cannot sleep immediately arrange a light book or CD in your room. Burn incense or light a scented candle or oils. Do whatever it takes, just make sure you do it. And finally praise yourself for all you achieved today, let go what you didn’t achieve that day and know that tomorrow brings with it it’s own excitement that which you can never know in advance.
