What do you want to be when you grow up?

I am sure you all remember this question and how you used to dread it. Sometimes I ask it without thinking and then realise how wrong it was. My dad told me years ago he just used to say “bigger” and people used to back off and stop asking. The important thing was always to have an answer even if it meant nothing. Most of us end up saying a doctor, a dentist, a solicitor, a teacher. Most of us end of doing something completely different.

Life, our talents, our interests and our circumstances lead us somewhere else entirely.

For lots of us this is fine and it works out. Still, there are some of us who continue to hold that thought. We wanted to be an artist, a writer, a singer. Well, hold on to that dream. You have held it this long and it is never too late. People are living longer and longer nowadays and you have years ahead of you. I know it sounds simplistic but if you want to sing than sing. If you want to write then pick up a pen and see what happens.

Our lives are long and there is always time to dream. So, look back at what you wanted and if you still want it then take a tiny baby step towards it today. Maybe you did before and then got side tracked or lacked confidence. Well, if it is still in your head then it is part of your destiny so let it be. Let it be free. Now think, what did you want to be when you grew up?
